Curry Diamond Club
This past Saturday was the 4th Annual Curry Diamond Club Tournament from Smith Lake Dam. Close to 60 boats took part in this year’s event that guaranteed $2,000 for first place. This event has had all the local sticks showing up for a great event each and every year and this year was no different. The Curry Diamond Club helps promote and fund both the Curry H.S. baseball and football teams and use this event for as one of their fundraisers, while paying out 87% of the entries to the anglers. Cullman’s Rex Chambers and Shawn Striker took home first place and big fish award with a mixed limit of largemouth and spotted bass that weighed a total of 19.58 pounds. Their big fish hit the scales at 6.12 pounds and won them an extra $530 on top of the first place $2,000 prize. Bassmaster Southern Open runner up, Brent Crow and partner J.B. Morgan came in 2nd place with a limit of spotted bass that weighed 16.73 pounds, winning $700. Southern Open winner, Jesse Wiggins and his brother Jordan finished 3rd place, winning $600. 4th place and top Adult/Junior team was Cullman’s Greg and Joshua Pugh with a weight of 15.33, winning a total of $600.
Ryan’s Creek Baptist Church Outdoor Adventures will host its 11th Annual fishing tournament on May 7th. In its 11th year, this event is the longest running current tournament on Smith Lake and the only tournament that can boast that it’s a “no entry fee” event. Teams that take part in this event are never disappointed. It’s one of the best ran tournaments in the area and every team has a chance at a great draw prize whether they had a good day of fishing or not. In the past, teams have taken home draw prizes that included recliners, trolling motors, rods, reels, tackle bags, gift certificates and oil changes. The one single thing that teams are required to do in order to be part of the event is show up at the pre-tournament meeting on Sunday, May 1st at Ryan Creek Baptist Church, beginning at 6pm. This meeting is mandatory for both partners, no exceptions. This year’s guest speakers will be Bassmaster Classic Champion Randy Howell and Pastor Kevin Hamm. Teams will register before meeting there at the church and all rules and tournament information will be given during the meeting.

The tournament will benefit Cullman Autism and Special Needs Family Support Group.
